Pizza Hut Story:  How 2 Brothers Turned Pizza Hut Into a Franchise

Pizza Hut today serves over a million pizzas per day, and has over 12,000 restaurants across the globe.   Here’s the history:

It all began in 1958 with a small restaurant in Kansas that only had seating for 25 people.   It was on campus, at Wichita State University.

This is where 2 brothers were attending university.  The two brothers were actually invited to start up this little restaurant.  They were challenged to do this by a family friend.   Their names:  Dan and Frank Carney.

Factoid:  Pizza Hut is the largest user of cheese in the world!  They use over 100 million pounds of cheese in a given summer.

Factoid:   Pizza Hut actually responded to customers’ needs when the results of a survey indicated that people enjoyed dipping their slices of pizza into a sauce.   Hence, the introduction of Pizza Dippers to the Pizza Hut menu.

Fun Fact:  In 1973, Pizza Hut goes international with restaurants in Japan, Canada & England.  The first UK Pizza Hut opens in Islington, London.

Fun Fact:  In 1977, Pepsico purchases Pizza Hut.   In 1980,  pan pizza gets introduced to the world.

Fun Fact:  In 1982, the UK joint venture begins between PepsiCo and Whitbread.

Fun Fact:  In 1984, 50 Pizza Hut restaurants are open for business in the U.K.   And  by 1986, it rose to over 100 restaurants

Fun Fact:  In 1990, the Pizza Hut restaurant is introduced in Russia.  The U.K. now has over 200 restaurants

Fun Fact:  By 1992, there are 9,000 Pizza Huts  in 84 countries.   As of 1993, U.K.  has more than 300 outlets

Fun Fact:  In 1994,  more than 10,000 Pizza Huts exist.

Fun Fact:  As of 1999, Pizza Hut had over 400 restaurants & employs over 14,000 personnel.

Fun Fact:  Did you know that  in 2001, Pizza Hut started up  a franchising program with its delivery stores..

Fun Fact:  Did you know, in 2005  the 4forALL was launched.   Over 600 restaurants got opened to the public in the UK, 70 of these as Franchise units

Fun Fact:  In 2007,  Pizza Hut launches Thick n Thin Pizza

Fun Fact:  In 2008, Pizza hut buys out Godfather’s Pizza of Ireland – 28 total stores.  Also premieres 2 new pizzas, 1 of them is garlic crust pizza
